Dan's Birthday Part 2

...ctd from Dan's Birthday Part 1

After the lovely surprise of seeing his name written in lights in Times Square, we headed off for the next birthday surprise.

With a series of secret meetings and planning activities in place, we walked from Times Square to Grand Central Station...

Although I knew the name of the destination, I wasn't quite sure of its location. Supposedly the best place to get Oysters in New York, the 'Grand Central Oyster Bar' came with high recommendations! We walked around the station and tried to find the bar. No luck! I had to give a clue to Dan, so he could help me look - "It's called the 'Grand Central something Bar', I said.

In the end we went INTO the station to see if there was a map inside. There it was on the list of Speciality 'fine dining' Restaurants within the station!

Down we went into the dining level below the main concourse and found the glorious vaulted Oyster Bar. It was fabulous.

So then I gave Dan the card from Vanora, Harry, Grace and Charlotte. He was chuffed to bits!

He chose 8 oysters from the vast selection on offer and ordered the champers. We had a bottle guys! Thank you!!!!!

There were a LOT of people in the Oyster bar that day. Not just tourists either. It looks like local business men & women pop in there for the very quick lunch service ~ some clam chowder, a few oysters and a glass of wine. What a fantastic place to have a birthday lunch!

So what did he have? Well there were so many on offer but in the end he had 4 'Fire Island' and 4 'Duck Island' oysters. They looked different but he couldn't honestly taste the difference! So much for the connoisseur!

Well it was certainly an experience. The location and the food were absolutely wonderful. Not to be forgotten.
